Clay C. C. Wang, Lab Chief

I was born in Tokyo, Japan and spent my childhood in Taiwan. After attending a prep school in New Hampshire, I moved to Harvard for my undergrad working in the laboratory of Professor George Whitesides. I graduated magna cum laude in Chemistry in 1996. At Caltech I studied DNA binding small molecules called polyamides in the laboratory of Professor Peter Dervan and defended my Ph.D. thesis in the summer of 2001. Between 2001 and 2003, I was a NIH funded postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University working in the laboratory of Professor Chaitan Khosla. At the Khosla group I worked on heterologous expression systems for bacterial secondary metabolism pathways. Since 2003, I have been a faculty at the University of Southern California. I am currently Department Chair and Professor of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences, at the School of Pharmacy and Professor of Chemistry at the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Science at the University of Southern California.

Yi Ming Chiang, Senior Research Fellow

I graduated from the National Taiwan University. My expertise is in natural products isolation and characterization.

Jillian Romsdahl, Graduate Student

I earned my BS in Chemistry at the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2012. I am currently a fifth year PhD student in Dr. Clay Wang's lab at the USC School of Pharmacy. My research focuses on understanding the influence of microgravity and enhanced radiation on the production of fungal secondary metabolites.

USC Undergrads in the Wang Group

The Wang group provides USC undergrads interested in chemical biology a working environment to take their knowledge from textbooks into practice. Graduates from our undergrad program have moved to pursue MD, PharmD, and PhD degrees.

Joy Ahn, Undergraduate Researcher

I am currently a sophomore majoring in Chemistry at USC. I work on discovering new drugs fro Alzheimer disease. This summer I am a USC Provost Summer Fellow.

Asylynn Smith, Undergradaute Researcher

I am currently an undergraduate student at USC Vitterbi School of Engineering. I want to work in the Space program after I graduate from USC.

Wang Group High School Team

The Wang group provides an environment for highly motivated high school students to experience life as a working scientist. Graduates from our high school program have gone on to some of the top Universities in this country and all are now working in STEM related fields as physicians and research scientists.
